The cause for the Beatification and Canonization of Fr. Mathew Kadalikkattil was started on January 24 ,1989. The tomb of Fr.Mathew was exhumed and the mortal remains were re-interred in the new tomb of the Sacred Heart Provincial house chapel by Bishop Mar Joseph Pallickaparampil on February 24, 1990. The Diocesan tribunal was closed on January 12, 1991. The cause for the Beatification and Canonization of Fr. Mathew was started and the diocesan tribunal was inaugurated on 24th June 1989. Mar Joseph Pallickaparampil was the President and Very Rev. Fr. Lucas Vithuvattical CMI was the Postulator.
The tribunal completed its work in 1990 and the POSITIO was submitted to the Congregation for the Cause of Saints in Rome. From 2005 June onwards Rev. Fr. James Mathew Pampara CMI, took the charge as the Postulator. Rev. Msgr. Paul Pallath is appointed as the Postulator when Rev. Fr. James Mathew Pampara CMI resigned from the post on 2006. After completing the process of study, Holy father Pope Benedict XVI signed the Decree promulgated by the Congregation for the cause of Saints concerning the Heroic Virtues of the Servant of God Fr. Mathew Kadalikkattil, raising him to the status of 'Venerable' on 27th June 2011.
